EN 1092-1 / DIN Stainless Steel Flanges
Sunhyings manufactures a comprehensive range of European standard stainless steel flanges, fully compliant with the modern EN 1092-1 (Euro Norm) and the legacy DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung) standards. We provide precision-engineered solutions for piping systems across Europe and global industries requiring metric standard components, available in grades 304/304L (1.4301/1.4307) and 316/316L (1.4404).
Understanding the Transition: Historically, DIN standards (such as DIN 2501, DIN 2633, and DIN 2576) were the benchmark for German industrial flanges. These have now been superseded by EN 1092-1 to unify European standards. While EN 1092-1 is the current standard, we understand that many maintenance projects and existing systems still reference DIN specifications.
Whether your project requires the latest EN 1092-1 Type 11 (Weld Neck) or a replacement for an old DIN 2633 flange, our manufacturing process ensures seamless interchangeability. We pay special attention to critical details—such as the bolt hole differences in DN65 PN16—to ensure the flanges you receive fit your pipelines perfectly.

What is an EN 1092-1 / DIN Flange?
The DIN flange (Deutsches Institut für Normung) is the original German standard for pipe connections, widely used across Europe. The EN 1092-1 flange is the modern European Standard (Euronorm) that has officially replaced the national DIN standards to unify specifications across EU countries.
In practice, they are often referred to interchangeably. For example, a legacy DIN 2633 flange is technically equivalent to the modern EN 1092-1 Type 11, though minor dimensional differences (like DN65 bolt holes) exist.

⚠️ Critical Engineering Note: DN65 Bolt Holes
While EN 1092-1 is largely compatible with DIN, there is a critical difference for DN65 PN16 flanges:
- Old DIN 2501 / DIN 2633: Specifies 4 bolt holes (M16).
- New EN 1092-1: Specifies 8 bolt holes (M16).
Ordering Tip: If you are replacing a flange on an existing legacy system, please count the bolt holes before ordering. Sunhyings can manufacture both 4-hole and 8-hole versions upon request to ensure fitment.

FAQ
Can I use EN 1092-1 flanges to replace old DIN flanges?
Generally, EN 1092-1 flanges are interchangeable with legacy DIN flanges (such as DIN 2501, 2633) regarding the pitch circle diameter (PCD) and mating dimensions.1 However, they are not universally identical. Critical differences exist for specific sizes—most notably DN65 PN16—and in the surface finish requirements (Ra vs Rz).2
Key Differences: DIN vs. EN 1092-1 2
| Feature | DIN Standard (Old) | EN 1092-1 (New) | Interchangeability Status |
| DN65 PN16 Bolt Holes | 4 Holes 5 | 8 Holes (Standard) 7 | NOT Interchangeable (Unless 4-hole variant specified). |
| Sealing Face | Form C (Roughness Rz 40-160) | Form B1 (Roughness Ra 3.2-12.5) 9 | Conditional (Check gasket compatibility). |
| Flange Thickness | Varies by standard | Often thicker in EN | Check clearance for bolts.1 |
| Pressure Rating | DIN 2633 = PN16 | Type 11 = PN16 | Ratings generally align. |
Engineering Note: For DN65 PN16 replacements, you must explicitly request “4-hole execution” to match legacy DIN equipment. Failure to do so will result in an 8-hole flange that cannot be installed.8
What does “PN” mean in flange standards?
PN stands for Pressure Nominal. It is a standardized class designation (e.g., PN16, PN40) used in EN 1092-1 to indicate the nominal pressure resistance of a flange in bars at a reference temperature of 20°C.
It is important to note that PN is not the maximum working pressure at all temperatures. As operating temperature increases, the maximum allowable pressure decreases (derating). For example, a PN16 carbon steel flange may withstand 16 bar at room temperature, but only approx. 12.0 bar at 200°C (depending on the material, such as 1.0404). Engineers must consult Pressure-Temperature (P-T) rating tables to verify safety at operating conditions.
Do your flanges come with Material Certificates?
Yes, our flanges are supplied with material certifications in accordance with EN 10204. It is critical to select the correct type based on your project’s safety requirements:
EN 10204 Type 3.1 (Standard): This certificate declares that the products supplied are in compliance with the order and includes specific test results. It is validated by the manufacturer’s authorized inspection representative, who is independent of the manufacturing department. This is suitable for standard industrial piping.
EN 10204 Type 3.2 (Critical Safety): This provides the highest level of verification. The certificate is validated by both the manufacturer’s representative and an independent Third Party Inspector (TPI) (e.g., TÜV, Lloyds, DNV). This type is required for high-pressure, subsea, or nuclear applications where independent witnessing of tests is mandatory.
We typically supply Type 3.1 as standard. If Type 3.2 is required, please specify this at the inquiry stage to arrange for third-party witnessing.
